liz-bassEDUCATION:  or five years I studied with Cheri Litt, in North Miami Beach, Florida, late ‘60's to early ‘70's.  In the late ‘70's I attended classes at the Memphis Academy of Art and University of Memphis.  

In 1984, I attended an intensive 40-hour workshop in Memphis with Marshall Bouldin, a well-known Clarksdale, Mississippi portrait artist. 

In 2000 I attended a 6 weeks workshop with Bill Hicks.
In 2001 I attended a 6 weeks workshop with Bonnie Beaver.
In 2002 I attended a 40-hour workshop led by Jan Hart in San Pedro, New Mexico.

   COMMISSIONS:  My portraits and many rural landscapes are commissioned.  Painting the town buildings and historic homes in Olive Branch and Byhalia, Mississippi and the B.J. Chain Library in Olive Branch are my public commissions to date.  In 2006, I was commissioned to do a painting for an art school in California. "Italy" was used for the school logo.

 HONORS AND AWARDS:  In a 1998, 2000 and 2005 poll by The DeSoto County Tribune, I was voted DeSoto County’s Favorite Local Artist. 

TEACHING EXPERIENCES:  In 2004 I demonstrated watercolor on rice paper at the Artist Network of North Mississippi, Artists’ Link and the Bartlett Art League. 

In 2009 I led workshops teaching the watercolor on rice paper batik technique at the DeSoto Art Council in Hernando, MS.

 OTHER INFORMATION:  In 1998, I was a judge in the Local Arts Reflections Program, sponsored by the PTA at the Olive Branch Elementary School.  Local winners go on to the national level. 

In 1999, I was a judge in the Student Art Show sponsored by the city of Southaven, Mississippi.

In April 2000, I had a well-received show at the Mississippi Musician’s Hall of Fame induction gala in Jackson, MS.  They chose one of my watercolors for the cover of Legendary Musicians Whose Art Has Changed the World, their book and CD about Mississippi Musicians.

In 2002, The Bourgeois Blues Band used one of my oil paintings on the cover of their latest CD, I Hear You Knockin’.

In 2003, 2Wheel Drive used one of my oil paintings on the cover of their CD Waiting for the Messenger.

In 2005 I gave the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce permission to sell prints of a painting of Olive Branch landmark buildings that was commissioned by the city in 1984.  The proceeds from the sale were used to furnish the new Chamber building in Old Towne Olive Branch.

In 2009 I started teaching the batik method of watercolor on rice paper classes and watercolor on watercolor paper workshops at the DeSoto Art Center in Hernando MS.

 I am member of the Artists’ Link in Memphis TN, the Olive Branch Art Council in Olive Branch MS and the Desoto Art Council in Hernando MS.
